And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:5 NKJV
Who or What is the Light?
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. John 1:4-7
Yes, Jesus is the Light
Jesus is the light of the world, John 1:4. He is the “true light, which gives light to everyone”
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. John 5:24
He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars. He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light. Daniel 2:21-22
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12

The light which shines from the cross of Calvary shows the work which God requires to be earnestly and vigilantly done as long as time shall last. — Ellen White
Conclusion:
The Gospels talk about the “Good News” of Jesus Christ. In the book of John we learn that Light is defined as life, as seen in John 1:4, “In Him was life; and the life was the light of men”. Those who have faith through Him will have eternal life. This “life” is a gift Jesus brought from God into a dying world.
What should you do with the gift God has given you through His Son Jesus. Matthew and Luke both speak about the “Light”.
Matthew: Jesus says: “Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:15
Luke: No one lights a lamp and then hides it or puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house. Luke 11:33
Jesus’s whole reason for leaving Heaven and coming to this earth was to save God’s children (John 3:16). Who are God’s children. They that have made the decision to surrender their own lives and to follow Jesus. God’s children believe that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior. The only way to have life (eternal life), is through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior of all mankind.
