Thank God For Erasers
November 29-December 5, 2020 – Shari Lee
Recently I was visiting a lady and gentleman in their home. I had been to their home several times previously. However, during this visit something new on the kitchen table caught my eye. It was a stack of six or eight red erasers with positive messages written on the flat surface with a black pen. When the lady saw me looking at them she told me why they had appeared.
Years ago she had made a huge mistake that at the time was very bad for their marriage. While they were dealing with the situation her husband had shown her a pencil. He had told her the reason pencils have erasers is because we all make mistakes. A few days before my visit she had told her daughter-in-law about his forgiveness and commented about the need for erasers. Her daughter in law then brought over the erasers with messages of encouragement.
One of the messages was “Thank God for erasers.” That made me start thinking about how we all make mistakes. Sometimes small mistakes and sometimes huge mistakes. What we perceive as the size of the mistake does not matter to God. All mistakes need God’s grace – His giant eraser. No mistake is too large for his grace. No mistake is too big for Him to forgive and erase.
1 John 1:9 says that when we admit or acknowledge that we have sinned and ask for forgiveness God is faithful to forgive us and erase away the sin. The beauty is that Hebrews 8:12 tells us that when He forgives our mistakes / sins He remembers them no more. They are completely erased.
Thanking God for his grace. His giant eraser.
