Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
There are many examples in the Bible that explains this verse in John 8:36. Jesus used parables many times throughout His ministries. I often wondered why didn’t Jesus just come out and say what he wanted the people to hear. Now this is my own take on the matter of using parables in Jesus teachings. Jesus gives the message in a parables, so that you would maybe take a minute to ponder on it and determine the best course of action or decision on the subject without jumping to a radical conclusion or judgement. There’s always 2 sides to a story.
The Bible tells us in the book of John chapter 8 that a group of Scribes and Pharisees brought a women to Jesus proclaiming that she was caught in the act of Adultery. We know that it takes 2 or more eyewitnesses to confirm or validate a claim on something or someone. So, there must be some truth to what had taken place. But what the accusing parties did not prepare themselves for was what Jesus had told them. Jesus already knew the motives of the Scribes and Pharisees. Remember it was not the women caught in adultery that the Scribes and Pharisees were after, it was Jesus. If it was simply to bring judgement to someone that broke the law, then they would of handles it themselves without comforting Jesus. So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first. John 8:7 NKJV. Jesus kneeled down and started to wright names on the ground with his finger. One by one the Scribes and Pharisees put down their stones and walked away, as none of them were pure from committing a sin. Then Jesus stood up and asked the women were are your accusers, has no one condemned you? The women said,”No one Lord.” Jesus said to her,”Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
Let us look into this just a bit further, picking up the story in verses John 8:34-36
Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.
Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Jesus told the girl that was caught in adultery that he did not condemn her. It was because of the Faith the girl had in Jesus is why Jesus didn’t condemn her. When Jesus told her to go and sin no more, that was Jesus’s way of forgiving her sin. It gave her a clean slate to start over and sin no more. Her past sins were cast to the bottom of the sea and to never be brought back against her. Would you like to have a clean slate to start over just as the girl received from Jesus?
